Apple is now licensing (and providing spec for) their MiniDisplayport:

This is great, because even though Apple doesen't currently offer audio out (thus negating their necessity for an MDP--HDMI connector, it would mean someone else could make one for us, and I can finally connect my macbook (almost) directly to my HDTV

Currently I use the minidisplayport to dvi adapter, and then have a dvi-hdmi cable. Granted, there is no audio coming out anywhere other than the 3.5mm line out, but it's better than being stuck on the 15" screen.

This is the weakest link to the Mini besides the audio issue you spoke of. I am hoping that come January at MacWorld, a new mini will be announced. I am very pleased with the current Mini so far. It really packs a punch for its tiny size. But a better video connection and audio options would be nice.

The mini does come with Optical Audio @ 5.1, that is just as HDMI. Right?

I believe so. It's a major pain in the ass because most folks have their hdmi source running through their stereo and the audio gets peeled off accordingly.
=dealbreaker for mini displayport for actually doing more than watching movies, sitting in front of your tv.

...in front I mean, as long as your hdmi cord is, so you can take your speakers with you

I have a DVI to HDMI cable but it does not carry Sound

It does not have those four pins (two above and two below that Slot piece) I thought maybe that was the sound.

Or Maybe I have to pind the setting to make the MBP to send sound through the DVI instead of the 3.5mm ??
