Garmin Bobcat

Garmin Bobcat is now up to beta 2.0.0.3 and this version is getting very usable . You edit routes and their names. Drag and drop waypoints into routes. Still room for improvement but this is getting good

Re: Garmin Bobcat

Been using this more and it is pretty stable. The route planner is decent now. One quirk is that when you upload to a device it beeps on completion almost like an error yet it is the completion signal. A status of some type would be nice. Oh and it is FAST to upload.

Looks like one less reason to send any $$ to Microsquish

2.0.0.4 is out. Not sure what changes exactly. I detail that could be dialed up would be nice (you have to zoom to far for me) also when you load waypoints you need to switch tabs to activate a route calculate, a button would be better.

Re: Garmin Bobcat

Last time I tried doing any sort of route planning was with my Garmin V and it really didn't work too well. Admittedly, I didn't put a whole lot of effort into it so it very well could've been user error also.

Do the newer GPS models auto-route and give warnings on these pre-planned routes like they do normally or is that not a feature with pre-planned routes? That was my gripe when I tried it with the V. It followed the route but if I didn't pay attention to what was coming up I'd go off route since it provided zero warning of upcoming turns.

Re: Garmin Bobcat

Do you mean running it on a laptop while driving? If so I have no idea I only use it to load routes on my Quest2. I only use it a bit for scouting hills and valleys as MS Streets is still a bit better for that as you get good detail without being overly zoomed

Re: Garmin Bobcat

haven't tried the routing feature in Bobcat but on my 2720 I've used it for a few routes at work. just add all the addresses and you can either put them in whatever order you choose or let the system put them in order to your preference (faster, shorter distance, etc.). it still warns me of upcoming turns and if I go off route it auto recalculates just like it normally would. I would assume its the same with a route created in Bobcat.

2.0.0.5 is out and adds a great feature! You can adjust the level of detail with slider. This is great for me when I want the state roads to show up for plotting rides in remote areas. Nothing else jumps out but I just downloaded it... Great job Garmin

Re: Garmin Bobcat

Ooops might avoid this one for now. When I upload from the GPS to Bobcat I keep crashing.... Sure they will have a fix soon.

Re: Garmin Bobcat

2.0.0.8 is out and getting better all the time. I have long ago ceased using the one on 'doz. Though I just got it and have limited time on it the notes add a nice fix. On the previous build it would duplicate some places when you uploaded from the device. Thus Home, Home1, Home2.... one of the few annoying features left. Also it changed the name to RoadTrip not as cool as Bobcat but the marketeers had to get in on it one day.

Speed could still improve a bit on some functions and a couple of things I should send an email on like the need for a reroute now button. Some minor GUI enhancements (adding a new route via popup menu would be nice)

Overall though to Garmin

Re: Garmin Bobcat

Interesting. I wonder what the speed delta is with the debug turned off I was hoping to send them some more suggestions though on the GUI. Guess that is the price of dragging a hoof to long Might still send them in so they get into a later release.... The biggest one was where the create a new route is... totally unintuitive and not in a second mouse menu.

Overall I think it is a great first build (despite being called 2.0.1) The only other down is you need a 'doz machine to convert maps. For a Mac only house that is an issue. Still a big 4 hooves up to Garmin for supporting the Mac
