anyone else have dvd issues

Maybe i just overuse my poor laptop. It was basically a desktop replacement and gets used all day at work then come home and have more stuff to do. Anyway, my dvd drive will not recognize disks. It did and now it won't. Can any computer repair place work on macs or should I venture to knoxville to the apple store? I use it for burning cds, watching movies while working, and cds and dvds that i need to play for my students. Any ideas? I have never had a drive just die on me before.

What sheep said. Try a laser cleaning disk and see if that helps. Mine quit working a while back also, probably due to dust.
