External MacBook Displays

So the digital photography bug has hit me and I want to get a little more screen real estate.

Does the late 2008 MacBook support dual monitors from its Mini Display port? Or am I relegated to something large and awesome like this: Newegg.com - Hanns·G HG-281DJB Black 27.5" 3ms with X-Celerate™ Technology HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor with Height Adjustment 500 cd/m2 800:1 Built in Speakers - LCD Monitors

Re: External MacBook Displays

Should support Dual DVI with the adapter. Not sure the resolution though I could look it up if you need.

If you could, that would be awesome. I peeped Apple's site, but they wanted money to get questions answered.

I do know that the dual DVI adapter is necessary for their Cinema Displays, so I was curious if that applies to other, large format displays - like the one I have listed?

Re: External MacBook Displays

It should via two methods:
1) HDMI adapter
2) DVI adapter

The previous model could handle 1920-1200 on the external port (format adapter needed, see apple) Not sure if you can see this but:
Video Developer Note: Video Product-Specific Details

Not 100% sure that lists your model. Do you have the mini-DVI connector if so that is it. If you have the new display port I could not find it but I believe the spec increased or at a minimum remained the same.

Re: External MacBook Displays

I can see the page. But I have a late 2008, unibody MacBook. It doesn't appear to list my model. I have the new display port, requiring an Apple dongle adapter whatev.

That said, can I still have dual monitors? Or just one, large format monitor?

Re: External MacBook Displays

I think one large format. Though you can run a monitor and the laptop so you get dual monitors.

That's what I may end up doing.

The other question I had relating to this was I thought I heard somewhere that Apple was restrictive on the new mini display ports and what content went through them. Any truth to that?
