Office 2004

Does anyone have MS Office2004 for mac? I just purchased it through work for $25. I think it should be arriving in a couple of weeks. Does it work well?

Re: Office2004

It's bearable. On the Intel based Macs it's a memory hog and can be sluggish, IMO. It still runs as a PowerPC process, so the OS has to port everything. For $25, you didn't get ripped off though. I have it for more of a "just-in-case" than anything. Open Office works equally well.

I've heard great things about iLife, but I haven't used it personally.

You have to install X11(included with your original install media) for it, but yes, it's available.

Yup, Office 04 is really a dog on my MacBook Pro. The G5 it runs fairly well, but still not nearly as fast as my main Intel machine running Vista.

But, since I need it for work... it gets used a lot.

Why the performance differance in G5 to intel?

Different processor architecture. The Intel Macs are also 64 bit, while Tiger isn't. Leopard will be, so there should be a performance increase.

What does iLife have to do with Office? And if you haven't used it, then you need to get yourself acquainted with it. Some nice apps in there...GarageBand can be lots of fun once you figure out how to work it.

I have Office 2004 running on my PB and it seems to run fine. My PC laptop runs Office 2003 faster...but the machine is much newer.

Nothing, I assumed it was Apple's productivity suite 'til I realized that it's actually Appleworks.

I am assuming that I will be able to upgrade to the new leopard even though I do not have an intel processor. I hope they are making a version for the PPC.

Office is fine for my use but the scripting support is a bit buggy if you ever need.
