Review: Diskwarrior

Recently I had a external HD go belly up HARD. Well the drive had video that I wanted to retrieve so rather than reformat I was on a mission. First of course was Disk Utility provided by Apple. DU did not even attempt a fix just exiting with an error. Next I got out my copy of Techtool but it was not really suited to the problem at hand. So on the last try I picked up Diskwarrior 4.1 from Alsoft. Not only did it fix it the drive I got almost all the files back. My only minor gripe was the fix was less than obvious. I needed to make a Preview then drag everything to another drive. A reformat and copy back and I was done. In some ways this tool is to simple I wanted to do things and was looking for more menus and instructions when the basic stuff was all I needed. Also the terms used are not that specific so I was reluctant to hit go at times not being 100% sure what would happen. Overall though a solid four hooves up, buy it if you have drive problems

Re: Review: Diskwarrior

How does it work? Does it go right down to bit level or is it some other method?

Re: Review: Diskwarrior

That is the thing I am unsure. Thus the almost to easy statement. I am sure it messes with the format and can optimize also but exactly what it does is not obvious. Though it did fix a drive nothing else would touch and that matters the most.
