First impression 160GB iPod

So far this thing ROCKS!

I went from a 2nd generation 30GB to a new 160GB and WOW.

First it is nice not to be full like my 30GB. I have a podcast of Michael Savage on right now (sorry to the liberals) something I could not easily do on the my 30GB.
Second the video is great. I have put some video on it from my bike cam and the picture is suprisingly clear. I want to see how it is on a TV but that will have to wait.
Third with all the space and in some cases video I can now leverage iTunes U The samples I have seen so far vary in quality and usability for a non-student but for free this is a hugely cool program. With more use I will have a better idea on this.

Now for the downs.
1) I had an ugly nasty neoprene case that was perfect on my 30GB. I could find nothing as good for my new one.
2) Volume is lower than on the 30GB
3) The click wheel has poorer feedback. My old one was also touch but you could feel the drag. The new one is harder to tell. This may go away when I get more used to it.

Re: First impression 160GB iPod

My first iPod was an instant hit and the more I used it the more I liked it. Well the 160GB is the same. I was listening to Podcasts at work and enjoyed a break from music. Something I could not do on my full 20GB. I cannot always watch but I did get a chance to use the iTunes U stuff and it is great. I got lap videos from most of the tracks I have had the motorcycle at (still need to make two more). All that and a ton of free space left.

Today I got a KCE-422i for my Alpine stereo in the truck and hooked up the iPod At first I was having issues using the head control. Well, for some reason the radio needs one playlist then everything was fine. Still takes a bit to remember control sequences (Alpine makes a great radio but could use help on interface design). But MUCH better than the RCA jack I was using.

In short the iPod is really growing on me the more I use it. My only gripe is still with the wheel not having any feedback in feel.

Re: First impression 160GB iPod

I went shopping for an Alpine head unit this weekend. They have some cool stuff. The CDA-9887 is the one that caught my eye. Actually there was one that I liked better because it had a 2.x" LCD display right in the face plate but it didn't have a CD player. It was radio and MP3 only. :idunno:

Same cable allows iPod input or AUX input with an adapter cable like mine does.

There's a JVC in-dash DVD player that isn't too expensive and it has like a 3" screen on it. Looks pretty cool and you can get the adapter to use the iPod with it.
I just have a mini-stereo running from the AUX out on my radio.

Re: First impression 160GB iPod

Just picked up one of these myself. I'll be using it plenty this month as I'm traveling all over the place.

Re: First impression 160GB iPod

I've been ripping CDs into iTunes all week as well as DVD's. I turned one of the movies on(300) to see what it's like on the little screen and I gotta say that the picture is phenomenal.
