iPhone SDK announced
Hard to tell if this belongs here or in the developer area. But Steve Jobs announced that development would open up in February. Not lightweight web apps but native apps
 This has the potential of raising the cool factor of iPhones a LONG way. Depending on how the SDK is made available (hopefully free and public) my only other gripe would be it needs removable memory (CF card or similar). Even better put a harddrive in

That would suck as I am trying to wait to see what it is before committing to two years of iPhone. If I cannot install my own stuff (created by me) without Apple approval it has no value.

Interesting that
shows a different animal on the cover for the OReilly iPhone development book than http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/9780596519513/#top. Makes me wonder if they have some and have to wait until Thursday to sell them.

The news is out. Overall not terrible but I fail to see a way to get private apps to your own iPhone a major downer for me.

Listening to the intro to iPhone SDK video. Pretty impressive so far. Very full featured. Access to a sqlLite API, XML tools, Core Graphics and OpenGL | EL. Even access to the accelerometer and camera.
