Upgrading flash?

Anyone have any insight as to how hard it would be to crack the case open on the phone and upgrade the flash memory? Is it soldered to a system board or can the chip be easily upgraded?

I think I already know the answer, but it doesn't hurt to ask...

Soldered. Check http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone/ and follow the logic board link and you can see the chips.

Re: Upgrading flash?

I was afraid that would be the case It'd be nice to be able to pop in a 32 or even 64GB chip. Maybe someone is working on it.

Re: Upgrading flash?

That or a large HD is my gripe on iPhone. It could be a iPod replacement except for the 8GB storage. I got to believe with music, calendars, phone numbers then a couple of videos it is full (my iPod has 20GB of music on it). I could get by it if I could at least bring CF cards with the extra music and video...

Of course a 60GB iPod touch that does telephone with a CF card slot to boot
