Same forum, different name?
There's something strangely familiar about this place. Like I've seen everyone before, except we were all talking about something else instead of computers.
![]() Anyway, hi! I'm new here, obviously. I've got a pair of Macs at the moment, a Mac Pro which I bought in fall '06, and an Intel iMac that I bought in summer '07. The iMac is the "family computer"; my daughter needed a machine that wasn't going to grind to a halt every 2.5 months (thanks to AOL misuse). The Mac Pro is mine alone; I use the OS X side for video editing (Final Cut Pro), plus music sequencing and composition (Logic Pro and Reason); and I run Windows XP on one of the three HDD's I currently have in that box. I also have an iPhone, which I'll surely replace later this year. See, the phone's outer shell has taken a beating because the clips on the leather holsters I prefer always break; so I end up carrying the phone in my shirt pocket, from which it falls every time I bend over. The phone is beautiful, and a joy to use, but it's a lot more susceptible to damage than the Blackberrys I used to carry. I don't know JACK about UNIX. I don't find the Mac any less complex to use than a Windows box, and I'm surprised (for all the Mac fanboy chatter) just how many updates Apple publishes. It seems there are software updates available every other time I use either of my Macs. If you bother to look, many of those updates are security-related, just like in the Windows world. What I like most about Apple is their marketing...it's pretty damned effective. After all, our household has the two Macs, my iPhone, three iPods, Logic Pro, Final Cut Pro Studio, and now I'm contemplating Apple TV. I'm such a sucker! Anyway, glad to have finally joined. Maybe I'll come up with a couple questions you guys can help with! Last edited by TAZ; 04-01-2008 at 05:45 PM.. |

Welcome. Do you run Windows as a dual boot or with VMWare/Parallels? Oh and I like UNIX

I have to say, I've had my share of frustrations with that Mac Pro and my external Firewire drives. TWO of my three 500GB WD external FW drives became corrupt and unreadable within four weeks of moving them from my HP PC to the Mac Pro. Granted, I accidentally booted into OS X a few times without unplugging those external drives, but I didn't think that would cause such extreme failures. I think the data is actually there, but somehow the FAT table has become corrupted or something. Any ideas? |

Yeah, it actually ran on its own...and I think that's what may have killed the FAT.

Re: Same forum, different name?
Will disk utility (Applications:Utilities
repair them? I have only messed with 'doz drives in Parallels/VMWare or network connected.
